Champs Bistro @ Centre Point Bandar Utama

It was one of the usual after work days (Friday night!) when the workaholic gals and us decided to befriend happy hour once quite dear to us. But before the pints of alcohol pours in, dinner was what we looked forward first. Zooming fast from KL to BU for Champ's was the first agenda for the night.

Champ's Bistro was easy to locate as we stepped into Centre Point as their catchy buntings depicted their very famous Prawn Mee with huge prawns. Besides beers and music, it is quite a winner as most people know Champ's by its famous pork noodle, ribs, char key tow beside prawn mee

Jumbo-sized Prawn Noodle - RM21.90
The most expensive bowl of prawn noodle that I've ever tasted, it did manage to impress me as it's prawn shell infused broth was simmered with pork ribs which made the soup base sweeter somehow. Prawns are fresh and portion was huge too. However, i still thought it's a wee bit pricey. It was named the "Damn Shiok" Hokkien Prawn Mee apparently... :)

Malayas Bistro @ CapSquare, Kuala Lumpur

Remember that we mentioned about how much we adore stepping into restaurants that are 'old'?
Well, not exactly 'old' in terms of it being there for quite sometime but also goes to those with the retro essence. Going back in time is a very good idea for a restaurant.
Reminiscence......

Malayas Bistro

Malayas Bistro nestled at Capsquare is a hidden gem that brought out the flavours of Malaya (Malaysia). Dining at this restaurant reminded me of "1957: Hati Malaya", a movie that flashback the days for the tough route towards independence and how the founding fathers sacrified to free us from colonialism. I believe you would feel that way too. Wipe out the boring topics that we just memorized hard by words just to pass the history test and indulge in this atmosphere and the heritage they are trying to preserve taking you to old Malaya.

Sakura Café and Cuisine @ Jalan Imbi, KL

Sakura has always been a familiar name in our parent’s dictionary during their courtship years.

Its long years of establishment have draw out attention & tastebud’s curiosity to check out their very famous Nasi Bojari and Nasi Lemak.

“Old is Gold” we deemed.
It seems that Madam Kwan’s recipe originated from Sakura. Kitchen tales that we’re not really sure of. Now came along Miss Kwan Cafe, the Madam’s descendant.
Alright, back to Sakura :)

It was another get-together session with our besties; kampungboycitygal and AiWei for a round of Malaysian fares:

Nasi Bojari - RM 23
Served with assam prawns, chicken/beef rendang and deep fried chicken drumstick (a huge one). Comparing this to Madam Kwan’s, their deep fried chicken drumstick was not very tasty and crispy, but overall this serving was mediocre. Assam prawns were not too fresh tho.

Auntie Lora Prawn Mee @ Jalan Pudu

We're now a big fan to Tung Sing @ Kajang when it comes to breakfast with black coffee, nasi lemak, toast and half-boiled eggs on weekends.

Broke the routine when dad decided to give us a ride, heading down to Jalan Pudu for a taste of one of his fave Prawn Noodle.

A small stall tucked in Jalan Pudu behind the Pudu wet market, towards Jalan Cheras, in between Win Son Coffee Shop & next to Thean Fah hardware shop; known as Auntie Lora.

Chris love his Prawn Mee broth rich in flavour and colouring from prawn shells, patiently sauteed to deep ruby brown. So do I.

Ramadhan Santapan @ The Living Room, Westin. Let's Berbuka Puasa!

Another festive mood filled the month again; the Ramadhan.

A month bursting with buka puasa fare; bustling bazaar and stretches of feast offered by many restaurants.

During the one-month fasting period when Muslims fast, non-Muslims joined in the breaking fast affair too. But where to?

Here at Westin, they offer the Ramadhan Santapan, an international ramadhan feast featuring numerous delectable dishes. Believe it or not, there are about 700 dishes/ items.

Before breaking fast, we were served with 'Zam Zam Water' to cleanse our palate. The water was claimed to have healing qualities due to its high calcium and magnesium content. It was known that during Haji and Umra, the pilgrims are recommended to drink 'zam zam water' for thirst quenching and to cleanse their bodies. Dates and ulams were also served before breaking fast.

Very cosy environment

Nasi Lemak Panas Gerai Yati & Suri @ Selera Jaya 223

Do you prefer a big plate of nasi lemak piled up with sambal sotong and ayam berempah or just some roadside piping hot nasi lemak with tasty sambal wrapped warmly in banana leaves?

The small, banana leave packed nasi lemak rocked our palate!
And we don't mind driving all the way down towards Jalan 223 in search of the delicious RM1.20 Nasi Lemak at Medan Selera 223

Be warned that upon entering the Medan Selera, you would be swarmed by a group of vendors; read my lips: a group of very determined vendors of different 'territories' promoting things like 'maggi goreng' or 'sup kambing'......
We sat at the 'blue table' area as we've heard about their 'concentrated/ kao' Milo.

As we were eyeing on the nasi lemak on our table, we rejected every recommendation they made :P

Nasi lemak from Gerai Yati had our vote. Spicy sambal with hint of sweetness, half hard boiled egg and hot coconut based rice was a saviour to our cravings.
The packets are actually kinda small and one could easily finish a few with ease!

Nasi Tumpang at The Warung @ Mid Valley

IMG_8755

"Do you know what is Nasi Tumpang?" asked Chris smartly one day, pretty sure I wouldn't know the answer.
"I only know Nasi Kandar & Nasi Lemak" I murmured defeatedly.

He then ushered me towards his Nasi Tumpang 'research'.
I wow-ed ;P

It was from Masak-Masak and SimpleGirl, we got exposed to this Kelantanese delicacy.

Rumours Kopitiam @ Bath Street

Being boundless from exams and studying are such a relieve and at the same time, there's a feeling of emptiness somehow. Hours spent on studying then were replaced by loitering around Glasgow's shopping streets, lazing around at home and stressing ourselves up for trip planning. Extremely thrilled that exam is all over, bitting nails with rhythm & anxiously waiting for an all pass result.

However, packing belongings is no fun at all. Room loaded with unnecessary properties which I treated as treasures is another serious problem. Nonetheless, I can't wait to be home! And soon, we'll be welcoming the arrival of our juniors!

Meanwhile, why not indulge on some good food?!

This place do offer some home-like treats if you're homesick or when you can't withhold the sudden crave of Malaysian delicacies............
From Scot natives to folks from Asia traveling in Glasgow, RUMOURS KOPITIAM had somehow built a strong reputation in Scotland embracing Malaysia's delectable well-known dishes. Other than being featured on the HIT LIST in Glasgow's dining places, they gained the Bronze Award for Asian Restaurant's Chef of the Year in the Scottish Chef Award. Thus, we can assure ourselves :)
