Kin Shui Tei Japanese Restaurant @ Tropicana Golf & Country Resort - Leave the worries of Radiation behind!

Could I see a raise of hands when we ask......
How many of you have dined in a Japanese restaurant as frequent as you used to, ever since the aftermath of the giant quake thats swept Japan?

I can't even remember when was the last. I used to pester Chris for Jap meal whenever the craving drops by (which happens so often) and now... we would opt for other cuisine instead but not Japanese. Did you find this situation a resemblance?

Why??
Although we do know about how little the radiation impact was on us but the Malaysian mind could turn us timid sometimes. The nags from elderly trying to diverge our appetites away from Jap was one of the factor too.

I did not tell dear daddy we were going to Kin Shui Tei this time, as he would start his thoughts about radiation again. Haha.

Another reason that made us miss Kin Shui Tei was the cute Mr.Tanabe who established a high profile in Japanese culinary arts, the head chef who also specialize in churning out the best kaiseki; traditional multi-course Japanese dinner to suit one's appetite.

We were honoured to sample a few of their seasonal, off menu & new dishes offered by Kin Shui Tei.

Tang Shifu 汤师父 @ 1 Utama Shopping Centre

I have a thing over hot soups. Esp when the cycle comes and you needed the period tea so badly. You gals know what I meant...*wink*
We spotted Tang Shifu 汤师父, literally means the soup master with exclamations of eating healthily.

Menu scrutinized and indeed, they offer a variety of soups nonetheless, rice, noodles, bird's nest, ginseng soups and even Pun Choy. Soups double boiled with chinese herbs that stressed on improving blood circulation... they keep u very warm :)

鲍汁瑶柱珍珠粽
Abalone Sauce Rice Dumplings - RM9.90
Compact pillow-shaped rice dumplings are ingredients-filled.

Ninja Joe Burgers @ The Gardens

It's all about fast food that crossed our mind whenever we're in a hurry or decided to skip the feast with a valid excuse to feed our wedding piggy bank lately...
Burgers satiate us fast but thinking of having McD would sometimes bore my appetite.
Fret not as Ninja Joe would save us.

It's not easy to find a fast food outlet that sells pork burgers. Ooo yeah!

IMG_2245

Some said it's mini, but we find it filling for us.
A ninja is not enough? The more you buy, the cheaper it gets.

Solo ninja - RM 5.90
2 ninjas - RM 9.90
3 ninjas - RM 12.90
6 ninjas - RM 23.90

FYI, you can choose between 6 different flavours for your pork patty: Original, Oriental, Teriyaki, Black Pepper, Sweet&Sour and Spicy.

Fong Lye Restaurant @ Sunway Pyramid

Let's have a quickie!
Fong Lye has been touring around in our eat list for quite sometime but just recently, we paid it a visit. Besides having heard of their great Taiwanese fares, their cute interior made us fell for it more. As we were both craving for something hot and warm, we settled for:

IMG_9945

Sesame Chicken Mee Sua Set - RM19.80
It tasted like a serving of confinement soup and I loved it. Aromatized with sesame and with hints of rice wine, the chicken was smooth and enjoying it with my favourite mee sua was a very good idea.

Sanook Bistro and Sports Bar @ Plaza Kelana Jaya, PJ

Everyone just wanna have FUN! Who doesn't?
Beating away all worries and throw yourself into the nothing-but-fun-moments.
It didn't hit us about this place who focused on bringing colours into your black & white diary until Ken told us so. We were delighted to be invited over to discover this hidden fun place for ourselves at Plaza Kelana Jaya; which is so new to us.

The place to be: Sanook (which means "fun" in Thai)

IMG_0759

We were welcomed by the Godfather, the warm and friendly owner who would love to introduce fun to people. Executives, chefs, waiters.. bla bla... We would say, "boring!" And instead, positions like people pleaser, chief people pleaser, chief food artist etc were used for the crew members. Cute eh?

Sanook brings on 2 concept to accommodate patron's favour.
Alfresco@Sanook on the ground floor let the diners dine, fronting a lake. Enjoying your food while comforting yourself with the breeze and witnessing views of the lake. FYI, they don't just serve typical Thai food. Sanook offers tasty Asian cuisines, some Western fix, Italian pastas & wood oven pizzas, not forgetting great tapas to go with your drinks and desserts!

Sushi Tei @ Tropicana City Mall

IMG_0399

A vivid memory still playing well within flashing the many moments I pestered my mom to have SUSHIS during the teenage years and Sushi King was like the only choice we use to opt for. Assure me that it's a bliss now guys... 'cos we're really spoiled with many choices of Jap cuisine. Affordable sushi stations offering a variety of creative and delicious fresh dishes comes very handy nowadays.

Sushi Tei would be one of our options; let it be work luncheon or a table for two with Chris.
Sushi Tei was originated from Singapore, they have even expanded and opened more branches in China, Indonesia and Australia. Guaranteed flavours, reputation and most importantly dining here definitely won't dry your wallet up.

Huck's Cafe: a Private Kitchen @ Gasing Indah, PJ

It was a spontaneous 'YES' I answered when the besties Kampungboycitygal, AiWei & WenChing decided to throw a birthday celebration for Chris and I at a private kitchen.

Visiting a private kitchen has always been on our eat list for quite sometime but somehow fail to discover the nice ones. As an avid fan of TVB dramas, we've known that private kitchen is a unique type of eatery in Hong Kong. Typical one is based in an ordinary apartments, the capacity is usually less than 10 customers, with no prominent shop signs & advertising is usually by word of mouth from friends. Well thanks to Citygal, we get to know about Huck's Cafe at last.

Do bear in mind if you were to visit Huck's, RESERVATION IS A MUST as it's a home dining concept with limited seating capacities.

Huck's Cafe is nestled in the PJ neighbourhood, offering a three course meal with beverages included at RM68 nett per pax. Affordable and quality home-cooked food that all of us yearned for. Let's feast!

Refreshment:
We started off with the Basil Seed Mint Soda for a refreshing start.

IMG_1062

Starters:
Complementary Salad
A combination of mandarin oranges, rose apples (jambu air) & leafy greens. However, the flavours of the dressings could have tasted stronger.

LamMeeYa 淋面屋 @ 1 Utama Shopping Centre (New Wing)

In order to reach in time to 1U for the earliest show of Harry Potter (yeah, sleepy heads woke up late), we adjourned to the mall directly for breakfast/ brunch. Having thought of a hearty meal with noodles, we headed towards Lammeeya. We've previously tried once at Lot 10 Hutong (thought it was great) and decided to give it another go here at 1 Utama.

Lam Mee Set - RM12.80
Comes together with cold Soya Milk & a bowl of meatballs & fried 'fu-chuk'.
To our disbelieve, the lam mee didn't come up to our expectation. Thick sauce which we don't find it tasty and the noodle were just too soft. 'Live-less' I would say :(
The fu-chuk was alright but meatballs were too hard :(

IMG_0458

Mushroom with minced meat Cheung Fun set - RM9.80
We've been searching near and far for a good plate of CCF with mushroom sauce ever since our Ipoh trip. And now we've found it.
Though it tasted different from what we expected, this serving was still satisfying. The gravy was tasty; mushroom flavours with a hint of green chili tang.

IMG_0446

We would still prefer May Keng when it comes to a good plate of Lam Mee :)
What about you?

Disclaimer: This is our personal dining experience and we do not intend to forbid patrons/ readers from trying for themselves. Perhaps you think they've already improved, do drop by and tell us :)

Char Siew Zhai Wantan Mee @ Paramount Garden, PJ

You would eventually drive the extra miles just to savour a good plate of wantan noodles.
Oh yes we would, we swear.

It happened during one late evening having learnt that Char Siew Zai has a branch at SS2. We google-map-ed and GPS-ed the exact spot but Char Siew Zhai was nowhere to be found.

"Wherefore art thou Char Siew Zhai?"
Never give up. The boy's capital, mind you, we headed to their HQ at Paramount Garden.

Fixing our eyes on the wantan noodles and char siew (bbq pork) of course, we hurriedly ordered:

Wantan mee with char siew & wantan - RM5
Very springy noodles and with no disappointment at all, we cleaned the plate. Fast.
However, the char siew was not up to expectation. Perhaps the uneven distribution of lean meat and fats made it kinda dry. But nevertheless, the taste was alright! We should make a request next time.

Breakfast @ Jarrod & Rawlins, Damansara Heights

Chris studied me hard while I was fiddling with my phone engaging on the game 'breakfast maker'. I was longing for a somewhat authentic English breakfast and he knows I missed it so much.

IMG_8533

After browsing through a few selections from net, he announced, "I bring you for a big breakfast tomorrow".
A sunny Saturday morning filled the air. Cooling weather surprisingly, we headed off to Jarrod & Rawlins.

MBuji Cafe @ Sunway Giza, Kota Damansara

Where do you usually hang out for your favourite cup of coffee?

We recently came across MBuji Cafe, a little comfy coffee shop cuddled up in Sunway Giza Mall at Kota Damansara.
As you might wonder what does Mbuji mean, their name was derived from a rock in Tanzania, a nation in central East Africa that the natives would worship and share offerings to this stone and it's like a monument to them. Bordering this area is a tribe of natives that make a living by harvesting coffee.

IMG_3379

Thanks to MBuji for the invitation, we were entertained by the variety of coffee they served. As we were scrutinizing their surroundings and menu, there's a feeling of sympathy as we get to know that the coffee growers/ natives at Tanzania have an average life span of only about 35 years. Sad isn't it?
Malaria has been the major cause of death. And this place is flooded by poverty.

However, MBuji Cafe helped by getting their coffee bean supplies straight from the natives in Tanzania, guaranteeing direct trading and sales to the coffee growers.
Money from the coffee would then help the locals in many ways; food, education, medication and other utilities. Salute MBuji Cafe for their loving effort.

Jarrod & Rawlins New Menu Relaunch @ Damansara Heights

Good news people!

The purveyors of fine food & wine will be launching their brand new set of menu this Friday; September 3rd!

From gourmet sausages, pies, burgers and sandwiches, Jarrod & Rawlins did a great job surprising our tastebuds. With an extended array of new dishes, they sure pleased us once again this time. Refer our previous post HERE.

What's new?

Toad in the Hole with Gravy
Sausages rested on a bed of Yorkshire pudding; the pastry that has a crispy crust, best garnished with yummy onion gravy.

Nasi Lemak Panas Gerai Yati & Suri @ Selera Jaya 223

Do you prefer a big plate of nasi lemak piled up with sambal sotong and ayam berempah or just some roadside piping hot nasi lemak with tasty sambal wrapped warmly in banana leaves?

The small, banana leave packed nasi lemak rocked our palate!
And we don't mind driving all the way down towards Jalan 223 in search of the delicious RM1.20 Nasi Lemak at Medan Selera 223

Be warned that upon entering the Medan Selera, you would be swarmed by a group of vendors; read my lips: a group of very determined vendors of different 'territories' promoting things like 'maggi goreng' or 'sup kambing'......
We sat at the 'blue table' area as we've heard about their 'concentrated/ kao' Milo.

As we were eyeing on the nasi lemak on our table, we rejected every recommendation they made :P

Nasi lemak from Gerai Yati had our vote. Spicy sambal with hint of sweetness, half hard boiled egg and hot coconut based rice was a saviour to our cravings.
The packets are actually kinda small and one could easily finish a few with ease!

Murni Discovery @ Aman Suria, Sunway Mas PJ

Mamak has never been outdated. Be it the usual the small mamak just around the corner of your house to popular established mamaks like Steven's Corner or Murni.

These stalls just come, in fact, too handy; so popular among Malaysian youths as hang out spots, due to cheap food and beverages being served 24 hours a day.

Having heard that Murni opened another outlet at Aman Suria apart from their 'forever crowded' SS2 main branch, we've decided to drop by after work with friends :)

What's Murni's specialty?
Bet you know better than me :)
We would tend to see other patrons ordering stuffs like; Ribena Longan, Mee Raja, Carbonara or Claypot Lou Shu Fan.

Mee Raja - RM8
Tastewise mediocre, with hints of maggi goreng's flavours but a wee bit dry.

IMG_2391

Mee Utara (Original) - RM5
Definitely gonna spice you up, this serving of flat noodles were drenched with overpowering sauce with chillies, topped with a sunny side egg.

IMG_2395

Claypot Lou Shu Fun - RM5
This seemed to be one of the star of Murni. Yes, it's nice, but we just don't find it special somehow. High expectation perhaps? ;P

IMG_2410

Roti Hawaii - RM5
Looks like a Murtabak with topped mayonnaise. SS2's was better ;)

IMG_2405

Drinks
From top left (clockwise): Mango Special, Watermelon Longan, Ribena Longan, some recommended drink named 'Poison'.

Murni Discovery

We should've ordered Ribena Longan Special instead of the normal serving. The 'Poison' drink tasted weird, and did you noticed the chili chucked inside ? Maybe it's that combination of chili and passion fruit that we can't tolerate.

Verdict: Disappointing. We still prefer SS2's outlet in comparison to this new one. Though you'll find it more comfy to dine-in here, some of the dishes that we craved for were not in the menu as the main chef was at SS2's outlet. Well, it's time to pay that crowded mamak a visit again!
Looks like we've discovered some unpleasant experience at this new Murni discovery. Oops.

Funky Villa @ e@Curve, Mutiara Damansara, PJ

Funky Villa.

From its modern & stylish  name, have you ever thought of anything related to Thai?
Not us, this never crossed our mind.

A place filled with surprises we shall say, Funky Villa embraced a bistro/ bar-like dining concept, portraying a hype of youth atmosphere. Decorated with typical Thai restaurant settings or decos? No.
Colourful mural at the bar counter, displayed with a giant screen that hums Thai melody, matching wall lightings that entirely brought out the happening atmosphere.

Zouk Cafe Bar @ Gardens Mall

Which pisses you off more when you're dining out?

Bad service?
or...
Bad food?

And as for us?
We experienced BOTH.

Let's see......

The Good
1. Environment was great. Hip, casual & trendy lightings bringing out the bar atmosphere.

IMG_6438

2. Food presentation was really good too. It looked tempting and the aroma augmented our hunger even to a greater extent.

Back 2 School! With lotsa good Food!

In conjunction with Teachers' Day, we would like to bring back some old school highlights; a party themed "Back 2 School" that we organized during Sugar's Birthday.

With invitations, costumes and props, we're all set to go!

PJ Old Town Food Court @ Taman Selera. With Ice Kacang & more!

The PJ Old Town Food Court is actually not a new place to us.

I used to frequent this place sometimes during the weekends, tagging along with my siblings and parents for a family dinner when I was young.

This place is special.
In a way that it brought back memories for both my parents like to have the famous Ice Kacang here during their courtship years!
And now, here were are, tagging along again and would love to share with you guys what's good around.
Bored of fancy restaurants? Drop by for some various selections of hawker food that could recharge your appetite.

You'll just have to order the Ice Kacang from Weng Kee.
At just RM2, it's a guilt not to have some ice shave with ingredients brimming out for a cool down during the hot weather these days.

IMG_6701

Pork Satay.
I think there were 2 stalls selling pork satays but only one was opened during our visit. Both were equally good as the meat texture was barbecued to the right degree. Well as for the sauce, it still could not beat Satay Rosley's.

Fresh Unique Seafood 23 @ PJ

It was during the end of CNY when we decided to go for another feast at a seafood restaurant, well known for their fresh seafood; displayed at their aquarium staircases. Another issue that will rise for certainly would be the wallet exhausting agenda. Dining here would be pricey.

IMG_4920

It's such a bad idea taking a set dinner and we would advise you not to, seriously.

Here's our RM888++ prosperity set:

Uncle Chilli's @ PJ Hilton

Hiding my face with my tiny hands while telling this:

Don't laugh at me.
I have not been to PJ Hilton.
Hold your laughter.
I've not been to Uncle Chilli's.
And I don't even know it was establish for quite sometime. Shoot!

The juicy bits: It has been refurbished into a modern retro hang-out venue merging exclusive dining and bar functions. Composing of private dining areas, bar, dance floor and also cigar lounge, patrons get to enjoy the best of both worlds. The place where u belong; quoted Uncle Chilli's.
