Tonkatsu by Wa Kitchen @ Pavilion, KL

I was ranting to Chris about killing the boredom of having our katsudon norms (yes.. chicken and beef) at a Japanese restaurant when our partner-in-crime AiWei rang the bell of dining at Tonkatsu instead.

What's Tonkatsu とんかつ?
Lat's read along.
It's a breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet, sliced into bite-sized pieces. Usually eaten with cabbage slices and miso soup. Yes. It's pork!
We could have guessed many of you would be aware of the whereabouts of Tonkatsu.

Kin Shui Tei Japanese Restaurant @ Tropicana Golf & Country Resort - Leave the worries of Radiation behind!

Could I see a raise of hands when we ask......
How many of you have dined in a Japanese restaurant as frequent as you used to, ever since the aftermath of the giant quake thats swept Japan?

I can't even remember when was the last. I used to pester Chris for Jap meal whenever the craving drops by (which happens so often) and now... we would opt for other cuisine instead but not Japanese. Did you find this situation a resemblance?

Why??
Although we do know about how little the radiation impact was on us but the Malaysian mind could turn us timid sometimes. The nags from elderly trying to diverge our appetites away from Jap was one of the factor too.

I did not tell dear daddy we were going to Kin Shui Tei this time, as he would start his thoughts about radiation again. Haha.

Another reason that made us miss Kin Shui Tei was the cute Mr.Tanabe who established a high profile in Japanese culinary arts, the head chef who also specialize in churning out the best kaiseki; traditional multi-course Japanese dinner to suit one's appetite.

We were honoured to sample a few of their seasonal, off menu & new dishes offered by Kin Shui Tei.

Ishin Japanese Dining @ Off Jalan Kelang Lama

Ishin was a great place for a family sit-down dinner when it comes to gatherings. Nestled at off Jalan Kelang Lama, it's a bungalow-like Japanese restaurant situated by the road with a modern interior and yet displaying their sophisticated traditional & spherical sushi bar. Flattered as we were, seated comfortably at the corner and began the ordering as we were impressed by their notions of serving genuine Japanese and Kaiseki style cuisines that are cooked to order. Fresh seafood and ingredients, air-flown from Japan twice a week :)

Fried Prawn heads with appetizing sauce to start off with...

Sushi Tei @ Tropicana City Mall

IMG_0399

A vivid memory still playing well within flashing the many moments I pestered my mom to have SUSHIS during the teenage years and Sushi King was like the only choice we use to opt for. Assure me that it's a bliss now guys... 'cos we're really spoiled with many choices of Jap cuisine. Affordable sushi stations offering a variety of creative and delicious fresh dishes comes very handy nowadays.

Sushi Tei would be one of our options; let it be work luncheon or a table for two with Chris.
Sushi Tei was originated from Singapore, they have even expanded and opened more branches in China, Indonesia and Australia. Guaranteed flavours, reputation and most importantly dining here definitely won't dry your wallet up.

Nagomi Lover's Bento @ Nagomi Japanese Restaurant

Hey peeps!
I wonder how has this fluffy Rabbit year treating you? Especially to friends who are celebrating CNY... Good food with abundance non-stop everyday? I'm pretty sure.
And again, another year of coincidence bliss dropped by as Mr.Rabbit meets Saint Valentine.

Cupid is out to hunt again.
Aiming at you! Bringing the romantic atmosphere of swirling kisses and sweet words peaking into little tuffs of cotton (I always thought this phrase sounded so cute.. haha).
So guys! Fret not if you've not blink up the where-to-bring-your girlfriend-for-valentine's idea, as going for Japanese would always be a good choice. Nagomi would help you please her.
In fact, Valentine's should not only be meant for couples. Good friends hanging out for a nice meal for this special occasion would be a very thoughtful idea too.

During our previous visit to Nagomi Japanese restaurant, its main focus was on shabu-shabu. Good news to know that Nagomi's menu is refurbishing, bringing us lotsa surprises with more choices of Japanese delicacies and yet remaining their satisfying standard of shabu-shabu.

From 11th Feb - 14th Feb 2011, Nagomi will be introducing their Nagomi Lover's Bento @ RM99++/bento.

POCO Handmade, Café & Atelier @ Lorong Kurau, Bangsar

I just 'lomograph-ied' our photos to match poco. hee.

Simple, contented, minimal with cuteness x 100.
Whatever cosy adjectives that pops into your mind fits poco handmade, cafe & atelier perfectly.

IMG_3636.JPG_effected

We've always drawn towards conceptual eateries and what's behind Poco?
Love Story. aww...

#1 LOVE & deco
Here's their little story:
Poco was managed by a couple in their 20's; zzz & mermer
zzz wanted to spend all his time with mermer in the little world that they have created for themselves and they would like to share it with others. Having the same passion, they decided to open a quaint café of their own that also sells handmade handicrafts.

Their cafe incorporates styles similar to Victorian-styled bakeries featured in Japanese animation. With and exterior of white and baby blue, their outlet exposed an innocent calm that makes it stand out cutely.

POCO Handmade @ Bangsar3.jpg_effected

The déco is a little Japanese, a little French and oh! a little Spanish too as poco means “little” in Spanish.

Yakiniku 烧烤馆 @ Pandan Indah, KL

Pics taken with Canon A650IS

Looking for cheap & affordable Japanese eats?
Dig into Pandan Indah area for a grilling session. Yakiniku, which means grilled meat cooked over flame of wood charcoals, was where we headed to.

The grilled meat is best eaten after dipping into 'tare' and the common sauce consist of Japanese soy sauce mixed with dashi, vinegar, etc.

IMG_9322

Cooking over a stove of charcoal

IMG_9306

The restaurant is equipped with huge cooking hood to remove smoke & odours.

Yakiniku serve ala carte Japanese fares such as don (rice) dishes, ramen, salad, sushi, but the star would of course be their grilled/ barbecued dishes.
Another great deal: (Monday - Friday only)
  • RM65++ for a set of grill items that has: (could accommodate the appetite for 3-4pax)
  • Lamb, Bacon, Pork Lean Meat, Chicken cutlet, Beancurd (tofu), Enoki mushroom with butter, Prawns & Australian Green Mussels
  • 4 selected drinks

Yakiniku

IMG_9314

Cheap eh?

If you don't mind the smoky odour that could leave you smelling of charcoal (well at least half of it was suctioned by the hood), it's a good idea for a birthday celebration with friends too.

Sanuki Udon @ Taman Bukit Desa

Although I've declared numerous times that I'm a serious noodle lover, I'll still would not hold back until my statement is clear again:

I LOVE NOODLES!
and I've found another new favourite!
Looks like Chris loves this even more than I do.
It's Udon this round.
FRESH Udon, to be precise.

Umai-ya @ IOI Boulevard, Puchong Jaya

Oh yes, we have heard lots about Umai-ya, especially their great buffet deals and all. But sometimes, thinking of traveling over to Uptown or Damansara for it made us lazy and we'll end up at Zanmai or something for some moderately priced Japanese spread. Xenri made me smile & we still adore Kampachi to the max but it could hurt Chris's wallet sometimes.

Umai-ya finally opened its doors at Puchong, specifically nestled at IOI Boulevard. So much nearer, and with the great voucher deal we have at hand, we gave no excuse this time.
Like any other Japanese restaurant, Umai-ya was layed down with wooden floors, some tatami seats and also a few VIP private rooms. We were seated at the private room and I'm pretty glad we do, as the place was loaded with patrons during our visit for dinner, bustling staffs and customers tittle-tattling noisily.

 What great deal we enjoyed?
Eat up to RM400 (on food only) and get RM200 off! That's a steal, seriously.
Beverages and taxes not included.

And we were stuffed with:

Twin Tower Maki ( 6 pcs) - RM14

You'll be surprise actually if you say YES.

We shall start off with the delicious ones first, slowly tapering it's delectable standings down.

Gyu Saikoro Steak- juicy and tender are the words to describe them.

Mr. Curry (Japanese Curry & Sweet House) @ The Central, Singapore

I feel like heading down South again.

Time spent there the last time we went were just not enough.

Thanks to Citygal's sweet cousin, we got introduced to this Japanese Curry House located at the Central.
Mr. Curry was its name.
The name tells it all. Curry was the ,ain agenda for dinner that night.

I found a story for Mr.Curry (a sister outlet together with Pasta de Waraku, under Waraku corporate)

Mr. Curry was a chef from Curry Land.

Together with Mango-nyan, they traveled the world in search of curry dishes. They finally stumbled upon the finest curry in Japan. With the passion of sharing, they wanted the whole world to experience the wonder “Japanese Curry”. And so, they decided to bring you “Mr Curry”. They hope that all will enjoy the experience and that those lovely curry flavours will bring satisfaction and cheerful smiles to their guests.

Please enjoy the wonderful journey of “Mr Curry”.

Choose your desired flavour! We had Original :)

Yoichi 酔壱 @ Bandar Puteri Puchong

It will only take me approximately 15 minutes or less to reach Bandar Puteri Puchong from my area and I can't believe I got lost on my way there! Good thing was... I reached Sunway fast. How cool and uncool at the same time.

*blushing all the way through as I was suppose to show AiWei around Bandar Puteri Puchong while fetching her*

Lesson learned:
Please pay more attention when the BF does all the driving without my help.

Good thing was: We reached Yoichi for after touring around Sunway. Yay.

IMG_9587

I was starving thanks to my clever idea of this excursion.
Tempura Udon - RM 18.60 without any hesitation as I was craving for something soupy. Udon was the right choice as the noodles was springy and we heart their broth lots! However, the tempura was just mediocre. Still acceptable as its serving size was huge for me. Glad the Udon was still able to compensate:)

Wafu Chicken Katsu Lunch Set (Chicken Cutlet with Grated Radish Set) - RM 15.80
Fried chicken cutlet with bread crumbs, grated radish in the dipping sauce, 2 slices of fruit, miso soup and a bowl of rice. The dipping sauce was a lil sourish. This definitely boosted AiWei's appetite.

IMG_9600

Drop by Yoichi for more! However, we both thought that if they have more selections of sushis and sets, this would definitely draw more customers in. Their lack of food options was a slight let down, but we were still satisfied with our orders. Hope to see more of Yoichi's Japanese Dining again.

Kissaten Coffee and Restaurant @ Jaya One, PJ

こんにちは
Hello from me. Apparently the employment rate of the government has decreased tremendously for the past few months and here I am, still jobless, working on a part time basis teaching Japanese. Just kidding on the teaching part. I've been wanting to take up Japanese lessons for years but this has always remained unmotivated. Spent quite some time looking for these Japanese translations, so please do give me some applause *claps in silence*

Ohaiyo Gozaimasu おはようございます friends.
Although there has been numerous posts around on Kissaten, but do allow us to re-share the fares we had during lunch session with AiWei.

照り焼きポークハンバーガー
Teriyaki Pork Burger -RM8.90
This was the best order. The sauce were tangy and overwhelming. Spread across and beneath the porky thick slice of meat with the right texture. The bun was hot too.

Nagomi Shabu Shabu @ Menara Hap Seng

IMG_7754IMG_7778

Swish-Swish. It is now an easy-peasy cooking chore
What I meant to say was Shabu Shabu. To be even precise; it's Nagomi Shabu Shabu & Sushi Bar.
In appreciation of the lucky draw sessions organized during the floggers' nite at Kin Shui Tei, we get to enjoy a set of shabu shabu treats at their sister company; Nagomi.

IMG_7779

A shabu shabu outlet relatively different from the ones we have been to, this is a Japanese restaurant that serves authentic Japanese cuisine, with its main focus on shabu shabu, literally means ‘swish-swish’. We find Nagomi in Menara Hap Seng a comfortable place to dine in. It has quite a classy interior, with a contemporary Japanese trend while incorporating a modern dine-in fashion. There were also well-partitioned areas for groups of friends, families or even business lunch meetings if they prefer some privacy.

Nagomi

IMG_7766

Broths available were: Nagomi, Spicy & Chicken (for additional pot to try different flavours, it cost RM8)
We had Nagomi (their signature broth) of course, since we're in Nagomi :)

IMG_7718

We were given the choice to try one of their sets. Chris and I settled down for their Ribeye Shabu Shabu set, which is priced at RM39. It is also available at RM21 (150g) via add on.

The set includes:

IMG_7748

IMG_7758

Ribeye - the Australian beauty best swished with the Nagomi broth.

Assorted Vegetables - Shiitake, Pumpkin, Leek, Bamboo shoots, Tofu and Cabbages. Choices of noodles or rice were also available to go with our set. The person in charge were kind enough to offer us another portion of noodles; so we had Udon and Shirataki noodle (Japanese glass noodle)

IMG_7740

IMG_7725

the accompaniment sauces:
Goma (ground sesame, soy sauce, kelp stock, sakae and sugar), Chili and Ponzu (soy sauce and juice pressed from a bitter orange, sweet sake and kelp).

IMG_7730

We saw an eye-catching poster upon entering the outlet that reads: Bento Lunch - RM14.90++
Chris opted for the Chicken Teriyaki Set since he is craving for the glaze of teriyaki again. The chicken and tofu was satisfactory, but I adore the salad especially. Very appetizing and flavoursome.

Check out their affordable bento!

Kin Shui Tei Japanese Restaurant @ Tropicana Golf & Country Resort

Tropicana. Tropicana.
Friends have been whispering around about their other affluent buddies who lived there for fairly a few years, with huge mansions, and drove Porsche.
Shame on me. That's all I could thought of.
I didn't have a clue that the Tropicana Golf & Country Resort was buried with some hidden gems. Kin Shui Tei was one of them.

atsa00029atsa00028

Members or non-members of the Tropicana Golf Club, Kin Shui Tei serve one of the finest & top quality authentic Japanese cuisine to accomodate patrons' satisfaction. This place is surrounded by acres of flourishing greenery, bringing out a serene dining experience, enjoying spread of sashimis and other Japanese delicacies in a secluded area of the golf club.

During an occasion of a floggers-get-together event held recently, we were greeted courteously by Lynndy and Debbie, the executives from Dessert's Bar & Nagomi Shabu-Shabu respectively, and not to forget Mr.Tham, the director of Kin Shui Tei who attended to our need helpfully.
Dessert's Bar & Nagomi Shabu-Shabu are the sister companies of Kin Shui Tei.
Our review on Dessert's Bar HERE.
It was a lovely evening dinner with the jubilant attendees: AiWei, KampungboyCitygal, Simon, Swee San, Audrey & Danny.

I love to be greeted by the sense of Japanese stylishness of their welcoming exterior.

Ambiance were great, neat seatings and private rooms as well as tatami seats were also well coordinated with matching deco.
