The Birthday: Cristang @ 8 Avenue, PJ

It's somehow depressing when everyone cheered and applaud to jog my memory that I'm a another year grown-up again. It means I have more responsibilities in accordance to age.

Do you miss the times when your cute little friends surround you with party hats and balloons singing really loud birthday songs you tend to ignore as you eyed on the huge birthday cake with only a few candles lit up?
I really do.

But I enjoyed more of it now as I learn that......
Birthday doesn't seem to last only for a day. Wheeee.......

Fun facts and trivia about birthday:

#1 Good food at Cristang

Nasi Lemak Goreng With Chinese sausages (Lap Cheong), Bacon And Omelette (RM12.80). A very unique toss of nasi lemak with bits of western and malaysian fusion. The blast of flavours were worth checking out!

Behold: pork burgers ruled in the house. Especially the P7: The Urban Legend. It's actually an order of P4 + melted cheese. What's so cool about the urban legend? With this burger, there was a bountiful serving consisting of a 250g pork patty, minced pork tossed with chili and chopped petai, bacon bits, melted cheese, onion rings, tomatoes and pickles. Oolala...... It's definitely wrong to forego the combination of petai and pork burger. So unique. how can miss one... (30% off pork burgers on every Wednesday)

More pork burger selections?

The Birthday: Sek Yuen @ Jalan Pudu & Surprises!

December the 11th was filled with endless routines.

Routines which were poles apart from what I usually do these days.
Work.
A Friday getaway on a birthday.
Birthday songs, messages and CAKESSS!! (read the S) I just couldn't be happier.

#1 Lunch with colleagues
Lovely university classmates are now my colleagues. Thanks for the lunch and cake gals!!!

#2 Dinner at Sek Yuen
A relaxing family dinner at the restaurant quoted as a "retro-frontage on Jalan Pudu that opened up to a bright, spacious high-ceilinged dining hall which harked from a different era". Dad suggested it immediately as soon as mom mentioned she wants to go for Italian. Chinese food rules on his gastronomic diary. Sek Yuen  is 63-year-old Cantonese eatery which my parents knows best.

TGIF @ Buchanan Street

TGIF.
Established a significant standing ground in stipulations of big-portioned value for money food.
It's not any new hang-out place for us, especially when we got kind of bored with T.G.I Fridays in KL.
With thought that UK's TGIF would be even better off, we spent social times here one evening, with celebration of dear Lai Yee's birthday.

Scrutinizing over the menu here was no big deal as we were just stuck on a particular page that reads "2 courses for £9.99 OR 3 courses for £12.99" (Available from Monday - Thursday only).

For the starter, we had the Jack Daniel's Sesame Chicken Strips. This was worth a praise as the golden brown chicken strips were crispy and chruncy. These little sweethearts were coated with toasted sesame seeds and chili flakes. Dipping them into the Jack Daniel's sauce really enhanced their flavour.

An upgrade to a Sizzling Chicken Fajita costs us extra 3.49 pounds. It was a serving of marinated char-grilled chicken, sliced and served on a skillet of sauteed onions, red & green peppers. Served with warm flour tortillas, guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream and Colby cheese.
Nothing to shout about in general and the portion is small compared to the one in KL.
Plus, the chickens were oily!!

The Jack Daniel's Ribs was claimed flavourful, but the 'mini'-portion of this minus its credits. The ribs here... I'll never order a rib when eating out in Glasgow as they contain 80% bone leaving behind 20% meat for me to sink my teeth onto. These were served with Cajun battered onion and fries.

Desserts time!

Chocolate Fudge Fixation
Indulge in three layers of moist chocolate cake with rich chocolate & fudge filling, served warm with vanilla flavor ice cream.

Dessert Minis
Pick 'n' mix mini mousses. You can choose 2 flavours between Chocolate Orea, Mint Chocolate Chip, Blueberry Cheesecake, Raspberry or Key Lime Pie.

Verdict:
I'd rather dine in KL's Chillies or TGIF! You know what mean ;P

But, good companies compensates everything!

Happy 牛 Year

The year was ushered following a warm, memorable and lip-smacking reunion dinner that all of us concocted.
All being a first timer celebrating CNY away from home…
Not being with family…
The feeling of being home-sick was swiftly swept away by the enthusiasm of whipping up a feast in rejoices of CNY 2009!

*Dong Dong Chiang* *Gong Xi Gong Xi* playing in background

牛 Year Eve
The whole day was occupied. From grocery shopping to arranging furniture and ang pao decos. Housemates and neighbours were some busy bees :)
Some did ang paos artwork.
Some were getting the ingredients organized.
Some were deep-frying with effort.
Someone bought tulips to embellish the flat with spring atmosphere.
Someone bought clementines as the GF misses them badly.

We miss our super moms’ cooking.
We miss our family dearly.
Nonetheless, making out the best of what we had is precious.
Besides, one of my bestie Velix was here!

Behold, the reunion dishes highlights:
Credits to Jeannie for crafting out the meaningful Chinese label for each dish…. *claps claps*
Credits to me…. For complying with her, making up English explanations that fit. *hope it does* ;P

黄金遍地 : Affluent & Plentifulness
Sesame balls with red bean fillings

年年有余 : Abundance & Prosperity
Sweet and sour fish fillet

哈哈大笑 : Joyous laughter & Happiness
Deep fried curry flavoured prawns

宫廷之宝 : Majestically Loved
Kung Po Chicken

大名鼎鼎,包你满意 : Utter Contentment
Jeannie’s signature dish.
Stew Chinese cabbage wrapped with mushroom, carrot, assorted meat of fish, prawns & pork, garnished with mushroom & dried scallops gravy, with fried crabsticks.

迎春接福 : Welcoming the Spring & Good Luck
Lo Mai Kai Fan (Glutinous Chicken Rice)
Heal my cravings for Lo Mai Kai!! Thanks Jacinta! :)

情意绵绵 : Inspiring Love & Affection
Seafood Noodle
We actually used spaghetti for this. It tasted like yellow (egg) noodle :)

三阳开泰 : Good Fortune All Year Round
Grilled Lamb

龙马精神 : Hale & Hearty; Fit as a Fiddle
Red dates, Dried Longans & White Fungus Dessert.
Ichiban!

Note: All Chinese names were given to accommodate the dishes in Cantonese. Hope you guys can get it. Haha…

1st day of CNY

117 of us (my class) put together another PARTY using most of our flats to greet local students, staffs and lecturers, showing off our culture and what we do best during CNY. Yes. EAT.
Each hall has at least 10 dishes, and we have like…. 6 halls!
So much food. So much fun.

the guests enjoying...

2nd day of CNY
Dished out another meaty dinner and Velix’s Fa Diu Chicken was awesome!

Long-missed-Hakka Noodles with minced pork, anchovies and mushroom

Marmite Chicken

Wishing this New Year will lift me up to where I wanna reach.
Missing everyone back home.
Once again, Happy 牛 (NIU) Year!

Birthday @ Glasgow!

Another semester has gone!
I am once again feeling unbound after finishing this semester’s test.

Lucky I am.
To have friends that put in so much effort in making my 23rd birthday a memorable one, right here in Glasgow.
To own a BF that joined in their set up to surprise me by bringing me out here and there to explore Glasgow city center just to kill time.
And bought me special dinner too. Yum.

Spending time with friends is essential of course.
But a dinner for 2 with the BF is also a special ritual on birthdates.

We went for an Italian cuisine at O’ Sole Mio, a little eatery nestled on Bath Street. A rather classy restaurant, not really spacious but warm & cosy.
A candle light dinner have indeed churned out some romantic atmosphere.

However, there was one male staff that somehow got on our nerves. Arrogant old man. Issh.
Well, he did try to be nice in the end by helping to take a picture of us both though.

Coming back to the food,

The Main Dish of the night:

Yours truly. Non-edible. ;P

Spaghetti Pescatore £ 10.50

Cooked aromatically in garlic & tomatoes, spreaded bountifully with baby clams, mussels, calamari, scampi and prawns. Heart the calamaris! Springy and fresh. Worth a try.

Risotto al Funghi£ 8.30

Mixed with cheesey bits and mushrooms, it was fragrant and delectable, but to a certain extent as your appetite will be too jam-packed if you had too much.

Dessert

Hot Apple Pie with Ice Cream £ 4.50
A sweet ending with a hot and cold mingle will be flawless.

Thanks for the great birthday dinner Chris!

and your presence.

Surprise from F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

Effort.
Creativity.
Great cooking skills.
Friendship.
Love you guys! Thanks for making it happen :)

To Velix & Aberdeen gang… thx for the birthday song on webcam!

Food that satisfied my cravings. They prepared my favourites!
Nasi Lemak, Tempuras, Braised Pork in Vinegar, Salads, Curry Chicken and Crabs!!

Our Christmas holiday will officially start next week!
Chris and I will be away to Paris, Austria and London for Christmas and New Year. Can’t wait!

Dearest Readers, Floggers, Bloggers and Friends,

We would love to wish all of you.....

Merry Christmas &

Happy New Year!

Will have more updates in Year 2009!
Have a great holiday everyone!
