"Remember to Remember"

El Cerdo @ Changkat Bukit Bintang

I woke up one morning with a question from Chris asking whether I would like a 'porkie-licious' dinner. And of course I wouldn't refuse to turn him down when it comes to another lovely evening with him... and his family :)
Ever since his sis went into raptures over her previous meal at El Cerdo, she have been wanting to ask all of us here.

El Cerdo, (means the pig) used to nestle around Tengkat Tong Shin but was shifted nearby, at a walking distance I suppose to Changkat Bukit Bintang. From its exterior, you couldn't tell it's serving a rather exclusive meal, but the poshy interior laid down with dimly lit environment, sophisticated furnishings and most importantly the adornment with little piggy figures as well as piggy paintings to match with it.

Heard of this place being over-rated and by some means it was sorta true.. As in price wise, there are lots to pay for! ;P

I was feeling a bit warmed up and needed something to just cool me a lil'. One of El Cerdo's Elegant Cold Tea was perfect. For RM7.90, the Cooler Sunset Dream tasted moderately sweet with just mere sourish taste that'll give the refreshing experience. I would say it tasted better than a typical... ice lemon tea? ;P
And this drink's quote caught my attention as it reads "It energises you, lower cholesterol levels & gives you bright smiles" Just what I need :)

While I am the only one having TEA, all of them had the Weihenstephan Hefeweissbier "Dunkel" for RM29.50 per bottle of 500ml. German beer to go with the hearty meal... it was soothing and easy to drink! ;P Cheers!!

Coming back to the main topic: Food.

The dinner was initiated with servings of complimentary Potato Soup and Breads :)

For starters, we had the Jamon Serrano from Spain for RM38. It was a serving of imported Spanish cured and air dried ham served on rock melon and salad with Balsamico dressing. I have to say this is one of the best dishes served. Thin slices of ham, with the salty taste to savour with sweet rock melons were a flawless combo :) I loved it.. very much.
You can even try having the ham with the bread. Still as good.

Salad with the Balsamico dressing and roasted baby potatoes with parsley as side dishes for the Jamon Serrano and the suckling pis as well.

Another must-order while you're at El Cerdo is the Oven Roasted Iberico Spare Ribs served on Pineapple Salsa for about RM 115 (for 9 pax). Tender meat, tasty and juicy spare ribs that'll make you go carnivorous... like me! ;P You should get your hands on. Fun eating like this!

Next up, the Pork Knuckle was rather over-rated. The meat was good, but somehow not as tasty as the ribs. Sorry ppl, I forgot the price for this ;P

Almost every table would order this. The "Cochinillo Al Estilo Segoviano". Beautiful, but certainly not English ;P The Roasted Suckling Pig was the star of the night. On the menu, it stated RM215 for 4 person. What?! It only take 4 person to finish the whole piggy? Certainly big eaters the westerners are ;P We went on having only 1 whole suckling pig for 9 of us since there're other dishes to finish.
When the suckling pig was served the one of their staff will start introducing about this dish. According to her, the piglet was placed 48 hours into the spanish white wine before roasted and if the chefs were good enough, you can simply cut the piglet up by just using a plate! Crispy outer layer of the skin and soft, tender meat is what they intend to present upon us to feast on. After cutting them up, the plate used earlier have to be broken by tossing it into a wooden barrel prepared. This action will bring good luck to us all, she claimed :)
So, don't be surprised if you heard shattered sounds of plates everywhere in the restaurant!

Paella with Seafood, Chicken & Chorizo Sausage & Pork for RM88 (for 2-3 person). This portion is really enough since we've consume so much... meat! The rice was fragrant with all these ingredients but a lil' moist, perhaps due to the sauces mixed together with it. Overall, it was still uniquely tasted :)

The dinner ended with another complimentary serving of lime juice with Martini to ease our digestion after such hearty meal! Cheers.. again!

The total bill came up to about RM961. Expensive I know, and what an experience with the whole lot of pork! :)
We couldn't finish the piglet and went on to take away! Their take away bag was so cute!

Planter Jim @ Bangsar Baru

Shop, shop and shop...
We're just not tired of it. Not even a bit. And especially while I'm at Bangsar with my gals, the rage to get items is an essential. And of course, before getting our feet all ached up due to excessive retail therapy, a nice lunch is also another essential routine. Planter Jim serves Thai food that could help us save up for the shopping spree!

Since there were 3 of us, we went for their set lunch A, which caters for 2-3 pax. This is only available from Monday till Friday (12pm - 5 pm). This set meal is priced reasonably at RM49++ for 2 to 3 person and the portion is enough for us although tastewise, there's nothing to shout about ;P Just... a lil' better than OK ;)

The set lunch came with the appetizer, Miang Kam which was made up of wild beatelnut leaves with 7 treasures of ginger, lime chili, peanut, dried shrimps, coconut, shallots with sweet sauce of tamarind and shrimps. As I rarely consume these combos, wrapping up the ingredients with the beatulnut leaves, dipping it into the sweet sauce..... it rocked my palate ;P A nice and healthy serving :)

Next up, the Tom Yam; hot and sour lemongrass soup with prawns, oyster and mushrooms. Though sourish and spicy, it's a rather ordinary preparation. Just mediocre.

The Green Curry Chicken was better than expected. Cooked together with fragrant herbs, it's really aromatic as well. Love having it with the rice served. Curry gravy over rice... yum! *sorry for the blurred pic* ;P

Sotong Chili was kinda spicy. With addition of onions, curry leaves and chili paste, it was a bomb. Very tasty and the squid was chewy too.

Ipoh Bean Sprouts was stir-fried with onions, garlic and chili. I don't think they look tempting as I'm not a beansprout lover, especially the fat-stem ones. Lucky me, my girlfriends helped me sapu them all.

Really had a hot meal that day before going on with our idea to exhaust our wallet ;P
They have other set lunch available too. Do check 'em out if you happen to drop by.
Have to keep this post short as I'm rushing off ;P
Sorry guys. Gotta get ready for my hospital attachment in Seremban.
Till then again! :)

I Love Crabs!

When I thought I was one of the most obsessive crab lover, imagining myself most of the time tasting away with many finger licking good, fresh crabs, guess someone proved me wrong ;P She's even way fervent. Yea... Precious Pea, the Queen of King Crab, a crab fanatic.
And everytime I have crabs, I have her highness in mind! ;P

Craving for some fresh crabs, we headed for Hau Kee once again. From our last visit, we had an incredible mealtime and this revisit was another worthwhile one.
Can't wait to have more crabs!
Initially, our makan gang planned to drive all the way to Port Klang to feast on seafood, but due to some reasons, the plan was cancelled... aww...
Luckily, a dinner at Hau Kee managed to compensate this ;P

Boiled peanuts served once seated

Decided to go for some different dishes to savour, the recommended Guinness Stout Spare Ribs was unforgettable. Marinated in the Guinness Stout beer, the ribs was then fried and stir fried with adequate amount of tangy tasting sauce. Kinda unique :)

Opting for a rather healthy dish, then you should go for their Stir Fry Lotus Root with Macadamia Nuts. The lotus root was sliced narrowly and it was really crunchy! Highly voted by the restaurant, and as I a big fan of macadamia nuts, there's no reason for me to forego it ;P

Let's indulge on lalas! Clams in piping hot soup (Seong Tong Lala) warmed our tummy with its gingery and parsley tang in the soup. Kinda spicy with the pepper added in, the clams was kinda small too *not as big as they look* :P
But the soup has the kick!

The Beancurd with Minced Pork is best accompanied with our staple food. Tasty gravy and silky smooth tofu to go with it. However, this was something more ordinary.

Here's one of the star that ignited my hunger all over again.
The purpose we're here for.
Butter Crabs! Still living up to its standard, cheesielicious! Flavoursome and we just love dipping the bread excessively into the buttery sauce. *managed to put behind the artery clogging factor* Oops.. we forgot about cholesterol and calories. Yea, right! ;P

Wanting more crabs, we had Marmite Crabs too. Compared to the butter crabs, this preparation have to take the second place ;P
Though the huge crab was delectable as well, I would still prefer the first option. Sticky, dark brown paste with a distinctive, powerful flavour to be savoured with fresh crabs. Finger-licking good ;)

Hope I'll get to feast on more and different types of crabs coming up, like her highness. You'll know why I called her 'your highness' from after reading THIS. lol.
Crabs..... reminds me of my crab catching trip in Gold Coast!
By the way, the total bill came up to about RM164 including govt.tax, rice, tea and towel.

Let's start getting your hands dirty and dig in with crabs at this eatery!
Heard the prawns were good too. Well, there's always next time :)

Yuzu @ The Gardens

It's finally all over! I yelled.
A tight confrontation with the exam papers I had.
Obviously, they don't respond to me.
Deliberating with the silent 'tough & tricky' questions is definitely no fun at all.
What's the answer ah?, spoke my heart.
Darn. I'm self-conversing yet again.
I think I'm nuts.

Whatever, reuniting with my temporarily unattended food blog was a happy turnover. Meanwhile while relaxing up my nerves before the results are out, let's start to chow down again!

It was another girls outing with AiWei & Yen before Yen left for Australia. Going for Japanese again? Yeap. We're just not tired of it. AT ALL.
Yuzu was the venue to be. Having heard of good quality of foods they serve, this place is no doubt worth checking out!
Quality assurance:

  • Exterior - checked
  • Interior - checked
  • Service - checked
  • Food - checked, checked.. and checked!

A contemporary ambiance that alternates between sophisticated, classy and adoring, the mirrors on the wall did gave an extended look to it. Ventilation was good... as it was seriously cold, *they should work on this*, but the service was excellent. Friendly staffs welcomed us responsively and good recommendations is what you'll get.

We decided to go for their set meal since we're spoilt with the many choices they had. Affordable and big portioned!
Katsu Nabe Taki Komu Gohan Set カツ鍋炊きこみご飯御膳 RM25
A serving of
braised deep fried chicken cutlet and braised rice served with egg custard, 2 small appetizers, pickles, salad and fruits. Sounded appetizing eh? Bet you'll love it if you were to order this too. The chicken meat was tenderly cooked over a hot stove, very tasty from the boost of its gravy, and with onion slices and eggs... verdict? Double thumbs up :)
In addition to these, rice were served in a pretty pot and it was aromatic! Just perfectly married to the serving of chicken.

Unagi Maki Sushi & Kaminabe set 鰻巻き寿司&紙鍋セット RM35
Rolled Japanese eel sushi and glass noodles with vegetables and soup in paper pot served with egg custard, 2 small appetizers, pickles, salad and fruits was also flawlessly presented to us. The Unagi Maki was another splendid offer. The sauce coating the grilled eel generated the appetite uplifting factor and our tummy was also all warmed up, special thanks to the piping hot soup (kaminabe). Other than that, the side dishes like the salads and other appetizers were good starters before we dig into our meal ;P
and for the glass noodles.... ada ke? Ok. I didn't really pay attention, many a just a few strands! ;P

Egg custard was silky smooth

Sushi & Tempura Gozen寿司天婦羅御膳 RM38
There were assorted sushis and tempura served with egg custard, tea pot soup, 2 small appetizers, pickles, salad and fruits. Looking at the spread of different types of sushis overlaying before us made us happy already ;P We just can't wait to grab a bite out of it. Another interesting preparation was the tea pot soup. Tasted like the soup in the paper pot, the essence of mushrooms and enoki mushrooms went bursting out with the right flavour :)
There were also assorted tempura!

There were definitely lotsa food for just the 3 of us ;P
We can't disappoint our appetite, can we?
So satiated, so satisfied...
Have you tried? ;P
