"Remember to Remember"

Pacific Dim Sum @ Manchester, UK

The main agenda when visiting Manchester besides shopping on high streets occupied with huge shopping malls and Old Trafford were to feed ourselves with DimSums located at the Manchester China Town. After strolling around in search for a rather good recommendation from friends, we reached Pacific, serving dim sums and Chinese cuisines at its lower level and Thai buffet spread upstairs.

We frequent Pacific for dim sums every lunch session. Yes. 2 consecutive days, with a day after we’re back from Liverpool. Besides the return for memorable, fresh servings of dim sums, the bargain/ deal offered made our visit a must. From 12pm-5pm everyday, Pacific bargained an offer of 30% off for all dim sums dishes! After 5pm, you’ll still get 20% off. And for every 5 dim sums you ordered, you’re entitled for 1 free dim sum dish. Plus, if you opt to have some rice or noodle servings, there’s another menu offering a wide range of choices (also with discounts).

Rice & noodles dishes ordered with special offer (lunch special) from 12pm-5pm everyday - £5.90 (original price £9.50)
Diced Seafood on Fried Rice in Creamy Sauce – highly recommended

Beef & Aubergine Rice Noodle (kuey teow) in XO sauce

Jar Leung Cheung Fun (deep fired dough wrapped in rice roll) - £3.20
This was rather special, but I find it an odd combination.

Sin Har Cheung Fun (Rice roll with Prawn) - £3.50

Char Siew Cheung Fun (Rice Roll with Chinese roasted pork) - £3.20

Tai Chi Cheung Fun ( Rice roll with scallops, topped with XO sauce) - £4.00

Sui Ching Bao (Minced seafood & vegetable dumplings) - £3.80

Choy Mui Gao (Dumpling with vegetable, prawn and garlic) - £3.50

Tai Chi Gao (Scallop dumplings) – £3.80 (very fresh & sweet – highly recommended)

Har Gao (Prawn dumplings) - £3.50

Siew Mai (Prawn & Pork Dumpling) - £3.50 (these were better than Loon Fung)

Cheung Wong Chau Sau (Pork & vegetable dumplings with seasonal sauce) - £3.50
Another lip-smacking dumpling especially when dipped bountifully into the garlic with XO and chili sauce

Ngau Pak Yip (Ox tripe with ginger & spring onion) - £3.50

Xiu Long Bao (Pork & Vegetable dumplings) - £3.20
Some were rather dry and non-soupy. Not a good order.

Char Siew Bao (BBQ Roasted Pork dumplings) - £2.90

Lo Mai Fan (Glutinous Rice with dried meats) - £4.50

Fung Jow Pai Guat Fan (Chicken Feet & Diced spare ribs rice) - £5.80

Jar Sin Yau (Deep fried squid with sweet & sour dip) - £4.00

Ming Har Kwok (Deep fried prawn dumplings with mayonnaise) - £3.50

Jar Wantan (Prawn dumplings with sweet & sour dip) - £3.50

Wo Tip (Pan fried pork & prawn dumplings) - £3.20
We don’t like its thick skin and weird taste. Not recommended.

Mini Custard Egg Tarts - £2.90
Mediocre.

In all, all dumplings with prawns in them were fresh! Love the bouncy biting texture ;P
For 3 consecutive days, the total bill came up to approximately £35 on average for 5 people. And we had this many! Definitely not a rip-off considering you’re in UK. Way cheaper than having these in London.

Besides, the lady boss was super friendly! Showing us around the restaurant and her warmhearted services definitely will impress customers for a return.

Manchester is filled with young people! (unlike Glasgow) With large shopping malls & bigger markets easily reached, it’s a better paradise for city-craving people. Visiting Old Trafford was an incredible experience although I’m no football fan. I still adore Ronaldo, Giggs, Tevez and Beckham ;P

Next up: we’re not getting tired of Chinese food. Dinner at Tai Wu & Visits to Chinese bakery!

I ♥ Spring

Guess our posts on the spring trip will have to wait as we would like to share some tales on the small spring picnic and ‘in-house grilling sessions’ with housemates that came about right after I’ve handed in my final year research project dissertation.

For the past half a year, I’ve been working on……

This.

Building a peptide chain to inhibit a pathway responsible in triggering prostate cancer. Interesting.

From interpretation of painstaking journals, calculations, drawing chemical structures of peptides, lab work to build peptide chains to generation of a report. When it was time to wave goodbye to the hard work, it was such a relieve and at the same time, I kinda miss the fun days at lab for a month.

I could write a book. 2 actually.

In rejoice of spring time, I found relaxation after project handover at outdoors. Precisely George Square. Pretty sunshine, cool weather surrounded by people picnic-king, sunbathing, sleeping, bbq-ing and cuddling.

enjoying Glasgow's sunshine, Sainsbury's choc chip cookie & breathing fresh spring air.

After energy-regain at outdoors, went back home to prepare a meaty feast to celebrate some project-free-days! Themed ‘in-house grilling session’.

Grilled Bacon with Capsicans

Grilled Chicken Wings with honey

Medium-rare steak

Medium-rare steak with onion and black pepper gravy

Some Mash Potatoes to match

Nothing beats a feast after some hard work!

Cafe Uno Ristorante, Pizzeria & Grill @ Royal Exchange Square

We just got back fom Manchester and Liverpool yesterday night and the Spring trip was awesome! Good food, great companies and laughters along the relaxing holiday were etched in my mind.

before this......
Friends from Aberdeen planned a stopover at Glasgow intending a dinner with us before flying off to Italy for their Spring break and Easter holidays. how sweet :)

In preparation for their Italy trip, why not warm their appetite up with some Italian fares before hand? Plus, the 2 for 1 on main meal deal for April is on!

Adol, TC, Moon & Pathiew... Was Cafe Uno any better than the Italian meals you guys had in Italy??

Chris and I thought that the spread of food they serve here was mesmerizing. It was better than O Sole Mio foodwise, service and environment. Extra credits given for the 2 for 1 main meal deal ;P

--------Cafe Uno--------

Let's indulge!

Pollo Milanese 8.95
Tender escalope of chicken with a crispy coating of ciabatta crumbs and Grana Padano cheese, served with delicious Genovese pesto and spaghetti pomodoro

Risotto paesana 8.45
A creamy chicken and wild mushroom risotto finished with tarragon, mascarpone and matured Grana Padano cheese. Gotta try this. This was good. Don't judge by the way it looks.

Risotto marinara 8.95
A spicy seafood risotto with mussels, king prawns and squid in a tomato, chilli and white wine sauce, dressed with fresh herbs. With hints of spiciness, this risotto was value for money as it was bountifully ingredients-filled and appetizing.

Penne con pollo e Gorgonzola 8.95
Penne pasta coated in a creamy Gorgonzola sauce, with succulent slices of chicken breast, baby spinach and Grana Padano cheese. I like this as well as it was kinda 'carbonara-ed' ;P

Back to reality. Back to my study table. Less than a month before the big showdown. The final exam of my Uni life. Gotta nail this. Gotta settle down from the fun encounters I had.

Next up: What to eat in Manchester? My friends know better. Dim Sums!

Treats for a Good Girl : Wagamama

The BF have persisted the tradition of a reward system.
State: To finish up the final year research dissertation of 9000 words.
Last Friday, BF kept his promise of a reward.

Reward for being a good girl.

1. I asked for Wagamama (2 for 1 on Main Meal deal was convincing).

2. I asked for nice pictures around the restaurant.

3. But I never expected to be surrounded by so many people around. We were this close.

4. Hungered for these and got treated with them.

5. Got indulged in the curry fares.

Chicken Katsu Curry - £8.05
Chicken fillet deep-fried in panko breadcrumbs, served with a lightly spiced curry sauce and sticky white rice. Garnished with a combination of mixed leaves and red pickles.

Ebi kare lomen - £8.75
A spicy soup made from lemongrass, coconut milk, shrimp paste, red chillies, fresh ginger and galangal. Served with ramen noodles and garnished with marinated grilled black tiger prawns, beansprouts, cucumber, fresh coriander and a wedge of lime.

6. to the BF: Thanks for making my day!

Wagamama’s 2 for 1 on Main Meal deal was given in collaboration with Men’s Health readers, valid till 5th April. Go get them HERE!

Wagamama, well-known for its fast-paced noodle bar, offers pan-asian inspired noodle and rice dishes in a sleek. Holding a concept of the minimalist designed restaurant, the canteen-style seating and open-plan kitchen idea drew many patrons in as they tend to churn out the informal atmosphere.

It’s best to book a place before dining in. We queued for about 10 minutes :P (since there were only 2 of us) and was seated in BETWEEN the crowd! How unsatisfying.
Food wise, the Chicken Katsu Curry was worth a try and memorable. Japanese curry was perfectly married to the crispy deep fried chicken.
Ebi kare lomen was kinda soggy although I thought the coconut based curry concoction was fragrant and tasty. But, prawns were tiny and only poor amount of ingredients were presented. Credits to its savoury tang only.
Green teas are free of charge, making up to a total bill of £8.75 for 2 people.
